This course will introduce students to basic lexical and grammatical aspects of the Spanish language. Students will be exposed to basic Spanish in the spoken and written form that is used in practical everyday business situations. Students will also be exposed to important aspects of culture in the Spanish speaking world.

At the end of this course students should be able to:

• Understand the basic lexical and grammatical aspects of the Spanish Language.
• Understand the spoken and written forms of Spanish for functioning in practical every day.
• Business situations.
• Understand simple Spanish prose.
• Appreciate important aspects of culture in the Spanish-speaking world

On successful completion of this course students should be able to:

• Ask and answer common greeting questions.
• Use a variety of verbs to talk and write about themselves and others.
• Read fluently simple texts on subject areas familiar to the student;
• Acquire a good grasp of vocabulary and the essential areas of Spanish grammar;
• Discuss everyday topics in Spanish with a reasonable degree of fluency;
• Show appreciation of aspects of the cultures of Spanish-speaking countries.
